November 2018

Dear Friends of German Comedy,

There is nothing more dispiriting than realising you’ve gone about life the wrong way all along. Today is one of those moments for me.

The Ministry of Defence has announced foreign nationals will be allowed to join the British army without ever having lived in the UK.

This applies only to Commonwealth citizens but seeing Boris Becker managed to obtain a diplomatic passport for the Central African Republic, I’m sure it can’t be beyond the wit of man to get your hands on a bog standard passport from Mozambique, Sierra Leone or Ireland.

Turns out I could have avoided the slog over the past 17 years, simply stayed at home in Westphalia with my feet up, joined the British military today, sung a bit and before long replaced Vera Lynn as the Forces’ Sweetheart.

Gutted.

That’s it for now but I’m sure We’ll meet again,
Don’t know where, don’t know when,
But I know we’ll meet again

Henning

PS: Please find below a list of upcoming gigs. Would be great to meet you (again) at one of those.

PPS: This is very short notice but there’s a screening of the 1991 German cult movie Manta Manta at the BFI on London’s Southbank this Tuesday 6th. It’ll be subtitled and there will be a Q&A with the film’s director Wolfgang Büld. TICKETS HERE.
