Dear Friends of German Comedy,
I hope you’ve had a better month so far than the Prime Minister.
P45, coughing fit and then to top it all off being asked how she would be voting if there were a second referendum.
Surely, if you weren’t in favour last June you cannot possibly look at the current state of affairs and think: “I tell you what, this Brexit lark is actually working out better than anticipated. I’m now all for it.”
Saying this, Elizabeth Truss, Chief Secretary of the Treasury, who previously supported Remain has come out with this bamboozling line: “I made a judgement thinking it would be bad for the economy. Since we have left it has been more positive, so the facts have changed and I changed my mind.”
Let’s not worry about the finer point that Britain hasn’t left yet but I am genuinely curious what kind of doom and gloom she expected if the current protracted state of affairs can be considered a success story.
Mind you, there’s always much to celebrate if the benchmark for success is sufficiently low.
That’s it for now – enjoy the remainder of this golden October!
Henning
