As I write this bulletin, neither Germany nor Britain and not even Zimbabwe do have a strong and stable government. Not that the absence of leadership is necessarily a problem. Belgium did not have a government at all for 18 months in the early part of this decade and did better than ever during that period.
But never mind politics, we can all sleep a little bit easier knowing the most intense event in the British social calendar lies behind us. I’m obviously talking about the annual (Highly Selective) Remembrance Sunday. Prince Charles had his big day, finally entrusted to put down the wreath at the Cenotaph. Yet not trusted enough not to be stalked by his adoring parents from a nearby balcony. This would be slightly embarrassing for a schoolboy, let alone a 69-year old grown man.
The more facetious amongst us might wonder who exactly the Royal Family actually mourn, seeing the last English royal to die in action was Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485.
By sheer coincidence, the status of the Windsors, i.e. are they British, are they German, are they immigrants or are they not, is just one of the issues discussed in Westphalia Is Not An Option.
And as luck would have it, this very show has just been released on DVD. Available HERE.
If this isn’t a seamless link to the perfect Christmas present, I don’t know what is.
Have a great remainder of November and expect another coincidental sales pitch before long, featuring dates for next year’s tour show: GET ON WITH IT.
All the best and see you soon
