Dear Friends of German Comedy,
I hope you’ve all had a sufficiently good Easter!
It’s all been happening since the last bulletin..
The pope’s kicked the bucket, Tommy T’s England have won the World Cup by beating Albania and Latvia, share prices have gone down and then back up again, the US are deporting anyone they don’t like the look of to El Salvador, and the Supreme Court has ruled if a bloke puts on a skirt he might be Scottish or eccentric but not a woman.
I’ve been busy travelling up and down the country with Acid Wehn. And so far it’s been a jolly jaunt. An unbiased look at climate change is certainly proving to be a less controversial topic than It’ll All Come Out In The Wash, which, as you might remember, was an unbiased look at the Covid crisis.
I did, however, and I’m not kidding, get copied into an email a disgruntled audience member sent to the German Embassy after a show in Northampton last month!!! Priceless!!! I like the notion the German Embassy might be reprimanding its citizens. They haven’t got time! Since Brexit they’re busy issuing visas and passports. Saying this, if West Germany had been annexed by East Germany rather than the other way round our embassy would probably be a lot more ‘hands-on’.
Anyway, the complainant took offence at me suggesting everything in Germany works efficiently. I have no idea if my lot got back to her, but if they did it was hopefully along these lines:
“Well, Henning moved abroad in 2002 and back then things were largely working fine. Privatisation hadn’t ruined the train system yet, centrist parties won 90% of the vote, zero-hour-contracts weren’t a thing and hardly anyone bought stuff online. Also, Syria and Ukraine were still intact, the Arab Spring hadn’t happened and Bulgaria and Romania weren’t yet members of the European Union. But let’s not go there as this is all starting to sound a bit dodgy. Yours, ze Germans.”
Enjoy the rest of the month and hopefully see you before long!
Henning
PS: Please find below a list of upcoming dates. It would be great to see you at one of those. Don’t despair if your area isn’t mentioned yet. More dates are constantly being added. Or why not come to Weymouth for the weekend?!
